How to Use a Bicycle Tire Frame As a Pot Rack

Edited by Teresa, EditorEthan, Gerard Plamenco, Flickety and 2 othersPin ItArticle EditDiscussEven if you aren’t able to keep using your old and no longer useful bike, you can still transform its wheel into a pot rack. It's an artsy approach to finding a rack for your favorite pots and it'll be a good conversation piece when your friends all offer to help wash up the dishes! Edit Steps
Preparing the Wheel1Remove the tire from the wheel. Use a small knife or box cutter to gently cut away the tire from the rim. Discard the tire or take it to a recycler.

2Clean the wheel. Consider first removing any debris with a wet, soapy cloth. Follow up with stainless steel polish. Don't forget to buff away the polish and shine.

Attaching the Loop Hook1Select an area on your kitchen ceiling to hang the pot rack from. Consider marking the area with a pencil, to ensure accuracy.

Make sure that the pot rack clears any other shelves and is not too close to the stove or grill area.2Attach the loop to the ceiling. Carefully drill the loop into the ceiling.

Gently pull on it after it's secured, to ensure the loop is in place and won’t fall.

Adding the Chain1Cut the chain into 4 equal lengths measuring 12 inches/30.5cm each.

2Using a wire cutter, make a cut along the end of each chain.

3Slide the end of the chain on the wire spokes of the bike wheel.

4Distribute each chain evenly across the wheel. Aim to form a cross (see the image for guidance).

5Slide the hook through the loop and attach the chain. The chain should slide easily through the hook and be suspended from the ceiling.

If the chain is too long after hanging it, use steel cutters and snip the chain, allowing for a full link to be available for hanging.
Adding the S Hooks to the Rack1Add the S-hooks.

2Hang your pots and pans!

3You just transformed a lifeless bicycle wheel into something useful!
